Week 18
Hola! como esta todo?
I hope that you all are having a wonderful week. To be honest not much has happened this week so like last week this email is going to be pretty short.
One of the highlights of this week was definitely having a bunch of drunk people buy us a coke. We were walking in the streets trying to make some contacts and we saw a group of men playing domino's. Everyone here plays domino's anyways we decided to contact them and watch them play for a little bit. We quickly realized they were pretty tipsy and so they thought everything was hilarious. One of them even showed me his bank account and he is in quite a lot of debt. When in doubt drink your problems away. It almost always works. Anyways after a little bit they insisted on us having a coke and so that was very kind of them.
The weather this week was also wild. The sky would be perfectly clear with no clouds and then the next thing you know it pours for 10-20 mins and then the rain goes like it was never there. This leads to us getting very wet sometimes but it adds to the fun.
I also got my own set of Domino's this past Monday so that was great. I think I'm gonna get another one.
Now for the questions that people have asked
1. What holidays do they have in the DR? Have there been any since you’ve been there?
- they have a ton of holidays and they love to celebrate and party. They haven't had any holidays yet but they have started celebrating Christmas so that's been cool.
2. Tell us about your schedule, what do you do every day?
- we wake up at 6 and work out for an hour then we do all of our studys and lunch and sometimes we leave in the morning. Then we leave for the rest of our day doing visits and contacting people. Then we're home around 9-9:30. In general we play domino's and write in our journal and then go to bed.
3. How big is your district, is it just the four elders in your house?
- my district is just the elders in our house. There's 4 of us.
4. How big is your zone? Do you get together for zone activities?
- I have no idea how many people are in our zone. I think about 20. Because we live so far away from everyone else we only really see our zone 3 times a transfer. At zone conference, at zone council and at zone p day.
5. What is something that you admire about the Dominican people?
- something I really love about the Dominican people is how willing they are to help. They love to help people and will go out of their way to help us find people or get where we need to be. For instance we have a neigboor that we don't know really at all but the other day he had this hat that I really liked so I asked him where he got it. He was like you like it!? And then said he'd find me one and bring it to me. A guy I hardly know just wanted to help me find this hat. I saw him yesterday and he said don't worry I haven't forgot, I'm working on it. I love how kind the people are here.
Spiritual thought. This week I was reading in Jesus the Christ, if you haven't had the opportunity to read this book I highly recommend it. While I was reading I was reading about the parable of the unrighteous steward. He disobeys his master and so the master fires him. But during the time of finding a new steward the bad steward abuses his power of authority to get gain from the debts of others people that owed his master money. Something that the author said really hit me hard. He said " If you have not learned how to use properly the wealth of another which has been committed to you as a steward, how can you expect to be successful in the handling of great wealth should be given you as your own.”
Our Father in Heaven has given us a great wealth here in the world but it is His wealth and His power. He will give us all that he has if on this earth we use His power with respect. He loves us and wants us to follow in His footsteps. He has set the ultimate example for us.
I love you all and have a wonderful weekend.
