Weeks 26/27
Hola! Como están? I forgot to send this last week so you guys are going to get a 2 in 1. This week was a pretty good week and so that was good. I officially have 4 months in the DR which is absolutely crazy. It still feels like yesterday that I got here bit it's been super cool to see how fast I've adjusted to everything. It definitely is a miracle
This week we had to take pizza to our zone council which was interesting because carrying 6 boxes of pizza and 2 bags of crazy bread doesn't really work to well in a guagua where they try to put as many people possible on the guagua. It was a very uncomfortable ride.
The rain has started again so almost everyday it'll rain. The Dominicans absolutely hate the rain and they belive if you touch the rain that you are going to the get the "Gripe"(cold). As soon as the rain starts to fall the streets are empty. They also are really nice, every single dominican will invite us Inside if see us in the rain. This is really nice but sometimes causes a problem because twice this week we missed appointments because the people we were teaching wouldn't let us leave. We tried saying that we have another appointment but they just say "No Vaya!" And so we couldn't leave.
Our trash people can't decide when ti come and so we missed trash day and then it rained on our trash. Our neighbors were nit very happy with the smell. Hopefully the trash people will come soon.
We've been trying to revamp out english class by just inviting everyone and so this week we invited a ton of friends and kids and they all said yes! I'll definitely be there. Sadly only one person showed up and so that was rough.
One style here is to not take off the tags or stickers of your hats. So all the tigres here just walk around with tags on there hats and I think it looks super funny.
I'm officially a resident of the DR and so that's sweet. I went to the capital to get my residency card and that was a lot of fun. It was on the ocean and so we got to take some pictures on the coast. The water was so blue and you could see all the fish.
We paid for a taxi to get there from Villa Altagracia but that was really expensive and so to save money we decided we'd walk to the guagua station. It was about an hour and a half walk but we planned on a omsla(or a really big green bus that you cam pay 10 cents and ride for as long as you want) but sadly not a single one came and so we walked across all of Santo Domingo. It was a party.
We stopped at McDonald's on the way and it was guarded by a guy with a Shotgun and so that was pretty cool.
Elder Hansen and I also got matching ties from this guy on the street.
We've been playing a ton of monopoly deal which has been a lot of fun.
I also got a few questions to answer from my dad so I'll do those now.
What is your favorite principle of the gospel to teach to investigators?
- I love teaching who God really is. Many people see Him as a far away unreachable person but in reality He is here and knows us. It's so cool to see there faces light up as we teach that.
What is the most interesting thing that you have eaten as a missionary?
- I had the gizzard of some bird this last week. I didn't know and I tried to ask what it was and they just said some word I didn't know so I looked it up after and it was gizzard. It was pretty good.
Do you still exercise every day? If so, what is your routine?
- 2 days of pushups, 2 days of biseps, 2 days of abs
Spiritual thought: This week I was reading in the Book of Mormon in chapter 18 of 1 Nephi. In verse one it says
"And it came to pass that they did worship the Lord, and did go forth with me; and we did work timbers of curious workmanship. And the Lord did show me from time to time after what manner I should work the timbers of the ship"
The part I like in thus verse is that Nephi says from "time to time" He emphasizes that the Lord was not just telling him every single instruction to build the boat. I am sure that there was times where Nephi has to use his own knowledge to figure out. The lord will not just give us thr answers to all of our problems but from time to time he will give us the knowledge we need to stay on the path he has for us. I love this about my Lord that he loves me enough to let me struggle a little so I can grow.
