Week 20
Hola! This week was a pretty good week and so that was awesome. On Monday i got a new hat which is awesome. A few week ago I saw our neighboors wearing this hat and I'm like I got to get one of those so I asked him where he bought it and then he told me, don't you worry I'll bring you one and he did. Dominicans are the nicest people. That was a highlight of this week for sure. I've come to love the Dominican people. They are some of the nicest people on the planet. At the same time our other neighbor's kids loveeee to harass us which is really funny cause they're like 6 and they're just calling us fat and other funny names. Now for the questions.
You have told us that Dominican’s crazy-celebrate Christmas, what does that look like? Are their traditional foods that only get eaten at Christmas time?
- they love to celebrate and there are a few things they love. Pasteleon, they also love hot chocolate and bread but there hot chocolate is very different and tates kinda weird but it's pretty good. They also have this drink that is beans with sweet milk and I haven't tried it yet but I'm curious.
What do the members do at Christmas? Is it different than normal Dominicans?
- Most Dominicans drink a lot on Christmas and so none of the members do that. They mostly just have a ton of food and celebrate as families. They also go out and buy a bunch of new clothes ever year.
What do the missionaries do for Christmas?
I have no idea I think just call our families.
Is there any part of our Christmas traditions that you are excited to share with the Dominicans?
-they always ask what we do for Christmas but it's honestly pretty similar and so there's not a ton to share.
If anyone wants more details feel free to ask.
Now for the spiritual thought, this week I want to talk about the perfect timing that God has for every single one of us. When we are following the comandments of God it will always work out. This week we had a lesson with one of our investigators that is getting baptized soon. We decided to meet at the park to change it up a little. We agreed to meet at the park at 7:30. We get to the park at 7:30 but he wasn't there. We weren't too worried because Dominicans aren't great with time. After about 15 mins we give him a call but no answer. 10 mins later we give him another call. He finally answered and said he was on his way right now. Another 10 mins go by and we finally see him at the park. We go take a seat and immediately he sees one of his friends named Ángel. We had had a lesson with Ángel in the past but because he worked on Sunday he couldn't come to church and we lost contact with him. Luxemil called him over and he was super excited to talk. Then said he changed jobs and could come to church now. He came to church on Sunday and participated in class. He wants to learn more and grow closer to the church. Although at the time waiting for Luxemil was stressful and a little frustrating, if he wouldn't have come at the exact moment that he did we wouldn't have found Ángel and who knows if we would have ever seen him again. Now he will be one of our most progressing people and I believe he will eventually be baptized. I know that God's timing is perfect and that He has a perfect plan for every single one of us. He loves us and knows what is is best for all of us.
Have a wonderful week!
