Week 24
Wey klk todos, I hope you all had a fantastic new year. The new year here is absolutely insane. The party starts on Saturday then they dance and drink though the night till about 4am take a short break till 8 and then they start the party back up again till that night. Then they have a little more party time Monday just for the fun if it. They sure are a party people and I love them all.
Other than that this week has been pretty normal. I was in a trio for the week because Elder Gray left and I don't get my new comp till Wednesday. It was definitely interesting and it was fun for a bit but I'm excited to get my new comp.
This week I also did an English fast and that was a lot of fun. It's been crazy to see how much my Spanish has grown. I still remember getting here and just thinking I'll never learn Spanish but now I can joke and talk reasonably well. It's awesome and the gift of tongues is definitely real.
We went to get rabies shots for Elder Gonzales this week cause he got bitten by a dog. That was interesting and the hospitals are definitely a little different here.
They also sell 12 boxes of matches here for 40 pesos which is less that a dollar so that has been awesome. I've learned how to flick a match off the box so it catches fire in the air. It now looks like we have bad smoking habits.
We had hot dogs with mayonnaise ketchup and corn at a branch activity. It was actually pretty good.
Someone offered me 5000 pesos to marry his wife so she could go to the states and work. We spent a good 5 minutes telling him why we couldn't do that. He never understood the problem.
We went to try and contact someone who was obviously home but wouldn't come to the door. We then proceeded to call them, hear their phone go off and then hear them move to end the call. All while not coming to the door. Good times haha.
Now for my spiritual thought. This week I restarted the Book of Mormon again but this time am going to read it very slow trying to take as many notes as possible. This week I was reading about Nephi Laman and Lemuel and their quest to obtain the plates. I was pondering about this when a thought came to my mind. Laman and Lemuel were incredibly obedient. They did everything their father asked them to do and yet still, they fell away from God. Why? What is the difference between them and Nephi? I think it's because sometimes obedience is not enough. Sometimes you have to understand and search for the why. Nephi went through the same trials they went through. He also had to leave the comfort of Jerusalem, his friends, to travel though a wilderness and live in a tent. But unlike Laman and Lemuel, he looked for an answer through prayer and other studies. I know that as we find the Reason, our Savior Jesus Christ, we will find the reason for our trials and for our tribulations.
Have a great week!!
Elder Jonah Greer
