Week 65
Hola! Its been a while since i sent an email but dont worry ive set a goal to send one every week. We'll see how that goes. These last few weeks have been pretty good.
Area update: im still in Piantini, the land of the rich, its a hard but fun area because of the diversity of the people that live here. This week we had people at church from at least 10 diffrent countries including; China, England, Haiti, the United States, Colombia, Mexico and a few more. Its super cool to see the different cultures from all over the world.
Finding is tough in this area because the area is mostly big residentials that we cant enter. There are 2 barrios that we can proselytize in. Los platanitos and La yuca. My companion and I have talked to just about everyone that lives there and so have all of the missionaries preceding us. I am always shocked that even when I say there are no more people there is always one more. There are chosen people in every area.
Investigators: we are teaching a lot of super people but many have challenges that are keeping them from enetering the waters of baptism.
This week I made a contract to help one of our frends drop coffee. He has quite an ego and so we made a deal. I wont drink soda and he wont drink coffee. We signed some papers woth testigos and everything. So far it is working.
We have an amazing friend named patrik who loves the church and would love to be baptized but he can not accept that the bible isnt the only word of God and that the book of mormon is scripture. Pray that he will receive the spiritual confirmation that he is looking for.
Our friend from England is progressing quickly. We are hoping to put a fecha for him soon.
We have many more people that we are teaching but these are the ones that are progressing the fastest and need the most prayers.
Things that happened this week.
The kids in the neighborhood set a trap to kill a pigeon and surprisingly it worked.
Our friend patrik made us a haitian dish called li gem (?) It was not very good but its the thought that counts
We met a kid thats 9 years old and speaks fluent english because he started watching cartoons when he was 2. He is a genius.
One of our member's dad had a medical emergency (dont worry hes okay) while living in new york. He had called 911 and they came to his house but they didnt speak spanish and he doesnt speak english and so he called his daughter (the member) who speaks a little english and she just put me on the phone and I got to translate for the paramedics in new york. It was fun.
We had exchanges and i was with a missionary that just got here so that was super fun. It reminded me how i was when i first got here.
I hit 1 year in the Dominican Republic this week. That was awesome.
Spiritual thought:
While talking to my grandparents they proposed the question, "if you had ten minutes to teach to the world, what would you teach?"
I received my answer from the talk elder Ballard gave during general confrence. He had 15 mins to share the feelings of his heart and what did he share? He testified that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that the church has been restorred. When we can understand this simple doctrine we understand so much more. We understand that God is our loving Heavenly Father and that he has a plan for every one of us. A key part of the plan was the sacrifice of his only begotten son. I testify that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that Russel M Nelson is the living prophet. I know that God loves us and he is our Father. I invite any of you that are unsure to ask God and I promise that you will receive an answer.
Love Elder Jonah Greer
